FEMTO ECU Unlock Service

Unlock your factory ECU and prepare your vehicle for custom tuning with our professional FEMTO ECU Unlock Service.

BMW ECUs manufactured after June 2020 are equipped with additional factory security and require a FEMTO unlock before they can be tuned. ECUs manufactured before July 2020 typically do not require this FEMTO unlock service.

Why an ECU Unlock Is Required

The FEMTO unlock removes the factory tuning protection that prevents compatible tuning software from accessing and modifying the engine computer.

Once unlocked, your ECU can support compatible tuning solutions such as:

• Custom ECU tuning
• Bootmod3 CustomROM
• MHD+
• Increased power and torque
• Improved throttle response
• Performance modifications and upgraded turbo setups

The unlock itself does not add horsepower. It prepares the ECU so that compatible tuning software and a performance calibration can be installed.

How the Process Works

1. Purchase the unlock service for the correct number of ECUs.
2. Remove the ECU from the vehicle.
3. Contact Momentum Motorsports for shipping instructions.
4. The ECU is sent to FEMTO for professional unlocking.
5. Once completed, the unlocked ECU is returned ready for reinstallation and tuning.

Professional ECU removal and installation are strongly recommended.

Important Dual-ECU Pricing Information

Pricing is per ECU.

Some vehicles, particularly certain V8 models, use two separate engine ECUs. Both ECUs must be unlocked for the vehicle to be tuned correctly.

If your vehicle is equipped with two ECUs, you must purchase two unlock services by selecting a quantity of two at checkout.

Please contact us with your VIN before ordering if you are unsure whether your vehicle uses one or two ECUs.

Compatibility

This service is available for select locked ECUs manufactured after June 2020 and found in newer:

• BMW vehicles
• Toyota GR Supra models
• MINI vehicles
• Rolls-Royce vehicles
• Other FEMTO-supported applications

Compatibility depends on the vehicle, ECU type, ECU production date and intended tuning platform. VIN verification is required before shipping.

Important Information

Only ECUs manufactured after June 2020 require this FEMTO unlock service. The vehicle’s model year does not always match the ECU’s production date, so VIN and ECU verification are recommended before ordering.

All sales are final once the ECU has been shipped or the unlocking process has started.

Customers are responsible for securely packaging the ECU and purchasing adequate shipping insurance. Momentum Motorsports is not responsible for damage, loss or delays caused by the shipping carrier or insufficient packaging.

Software updates performed by a dealership or manufacturer may overwrite or affect the ECU unlock. Any future unlocking or recovery service required after an update may result in an additional charge.
